La norma si riferisce a sistemi di anestesia (o postazioni di lavoro di anestesia), intesi come un sistema di anestesia a inalazione che contiene un sistema di distribuzione del gas, un sistema di respirazione di anestetico e tutti i necessari dispositivi di monitoraggio, di allarme e di protezione.
Il sistema di anestesia può comprendere ma non essere limitato a, dispositivi di distribuzione di vapori anestetici ventilatori e relativi dispositivi di monitoraggio, allarme e protezione.
La norma non si applica a sistemi di anestesia da utilizzare con agenti anestetici infiammabili, sistemi di anestesia mobili e apparecchi di anestesia dentale.
La presente Norma riporta il testo in inglese e italiano della EN 60601-2-13; rispetto al precedente fascicolo n. 8583E di novembre 2006, essa contiene la traduzione completa della EN sopra indicata e, in aggiunta, la Mod. A1 Cenelec di marzo 2007.
