La presente norma internazionale fa parte della serie IEC 60068 e descrive un metodo di prova per verificare gli effetti corrosivi di un’atmosfera contenente anidride solforosa su contatti e connessioni.
Lo scopo della prova considerata nella norma è quindi quello di determinare l’influenza di atmosfere contenenti anidride solforosa sulle proprietà di contatto delle connessioni e dei contatti composti da metalli preziosi o ricoperti da metalli preziosi (ad esclusione dei contatti composti da Argento o da sue leghe).
La prova inoltre permette di verificare le connessioni senza saldatura (per compressione o per avvolgimento) per quanto riguarda ermeticità ed efficacia.
In tutte le prove il criterio principale di giudizio è la variazione della resistenza di contatto provocata dalla esposizione in atmosfera contenente anidride solforosa.
