La Norma riguarda la specifica dell'interfaccia fisica di trasmettitori a diodo laser con modulatore integrato. In particolare essa definisce le prescrizioni fisiche di un trasmettitore ottico in grado di garantire una intercambiabilità meccanica con trasmettitori conformi con questa Norma, sia nel caso di loro montaggio su piastra a circuito stampato sia nel caso di qualsiasi montaggio a pannello.
Questa edizione della Norma cancella e sostituisce la precedente, espandendone il campo di applicazione per includere, oltre ai diodi laser con modulatori integrati in contenitori a 14 pin, anche i "pump laser" a 14 pin.
La Norma in oggetto sostituisce completamente la Norma CEI EN 62148-11:2005-09, che rimane applicabile fino al 01-10-2012.
La presente Norma viene utilizzata congiuntamente alla Norma EN 62148-1:2002.
Questa Norma viene pubblicata dal CEI nella sola lingua inglese in quanto particolarmente mirata a settori specialistici.
La presente Norma recepisce il testo originale inglese della Pubblicazione IEC.
