La presente Norma specifica la classificazione, le prescrizioni generali di progetto, le caratteristiche prestazionali e le procedure di prova per i sistemi di misurazione in vivo, utilizzati per individuare le tracce di radionuclidi nel corpo delle persone che lavorano all'interno di impianti nucleari, di laboratori ed infrastrutture nelle quali si trattano radionuclidi.
Tali sistemi sono utilizzati anche per individuare eventuali tracce di radionuclidi negli abitanti di territori contaminati.
La presente Norma è applicabile sia alle apparecchiature spettroscopiche che agli strumenti adatti solo alla individuazione rapida e grezza di contaminazione interna.
Essa è applicabile inoltre agli strumenti utilizzati per il monitoraggio di particolari organi (ad es. polmoni, tiroide) così come per il corpo nel suo complesso.
Il documento tratta degli apparati di misura fissi, di quelli montati su veicoli e di quelli portatili.
Questa Norma viene pubblicata dal CEI nella sola lingua inglese in quanto particolarmente mirata a settori specialistici.
