Ciascun componente o sottosistema di un azionamento elettrico a velocità variabile è munito di apposita targa di identificazione, definita dalle Norme ad esso applicabile. La presente Guida fornisce informazioni relative ai modelli di targhe che il fornitore dell'azionamento può applicare all'azionamento elettrico come tale, indipendentemente dal fatto che i vari componenti o sottosistemi siano fabbricati dallo stesso fornitore o da terzi.
La presente Guida si può applicare a tutti gli azionamenti elettrici, monomotore o plurimotore, connessi a linee di alimentazione fino a 1000 V, 50 Hz o 60 Hz , con motori in c.c. o c.a. di frequenza fino a 600 Hz, per applicazioni industriali, oppure connessi a linee di alimentazione fino a 1500 V c.c., con motori in c.c. o c.a. per veicoli stradali a trazione elettrica.
