La presente Norma si applica alla registrazione e/o riproduzione magnetica video che utilizza il nastro da 25,4 mm (1 in) sui registratori a scansione elicoidale di tipo B, adatti alle applicazioni di trasmissione. Lo scopo della norma è quello di definire le caratteristiche elettriche e meccaniche delle apparecchiature che permettono l'intercambiabilità delle registrazioni. Le prescrizioni indicate si riferiscono ai sistemi 525 linee/60 trame e ai sistemi 625 linee/50 trame.
La presente Norma costituisce la ristampa senza modifiche, secondo il nuovo progetto di veste editoriale, della Norma pari numero ed edizione (Fascicolo 1752).
