La presente Parte 1 della Guida CEI 64-100 è destinata principalmente ai progettisti edili, e fornisce indicazioni sulla predisposizione delle infrastrutture da utilizzare per l'installazione delle condutture e degli apparati necessari agli impianti elettrici, elettronici e per le comunicazioni.
Questa Parte 1 fornisce quindi le caratteristiche (numero, disposizione, lunghezza, sezione, dimensione minima), che devono avere i tubi e gli spazi necessari (cavidotti, vani, cavedi) ad una corretta ed agevole installazione degli impianti nell'ambito dell'edilizia ad uso prevalentemente residenziale, e in particolare gli edifici in costruzione o in fase di ristrutturazione radicale.
Viene trattata in particolare la predisposizione nelle parti comuni degli edifici multi-unità: montanti verticali, distribuzione orizzontale nei pianerottoli, spazi riservati agli impianti (locali tecnici, nicchie) nel sottotetto e nel piano interrato, ecc.
