La Norma si applica alle lavastoviglie elettriche per uso domestico previste per essere alimentate con acqua fredda e che incorporano un sistema di riscaldamento elettrico.
Non si applica alle lavastoviglie previste per essere alimentate con acqua calda e fredda.
Le prove di prestazione prevedono l'uso di una macchina lavastoviglie di riferimento, un metodo di prova ripetibile per la prestazione di lavaggio, un metodo di calcolo per la determinazione degli indici di lavaggio e asciugatura, le tolleranze ammesse e un detergente di riferimento.
La presente Norma é annullata e sostituita dalla Nuova Norma, CEI EN 50242/60436:2008-07 (CEI 59-34); tuttavia rimane applicabile fino al 01-09-2010.
