La presente Parte della Norma IEC 60254 si applica alle batterie al piombo per trazione utilizzate quale fonte di energia per la propulsione elettrica.
La presente Norma specifica determinate caratteristiche essenziali degli elementi di accumulatori e delle batterie per trazione, nonché i metodi di prova che permettono di controllare dette caratteristiche.
Le prove definite sono applicabili a tutte le batterie di accumulatori per trazione per applicazioni nei veicoli stradali, locomotive, motori industriali e per carrelli per la manutenzione.
Le prove che possono essere utilizzate specificatamente per batterie di accumulatori per veicoli leggeri destinati al trasporto delle persone, cicli a motore, veicoli commerciali leggeri, ecc. possono essere specificate in altre Norme, ad esempio la IEC 61982-2.
La presente Norma riporta il testo in inglese e italiano della Norma europea EN 60254-1; rispetto al precedente fascicolo n. 7912E di ottobre 2005, essa contiene la traduzione completa della Norma EN sopra indicata.
