La presente Norma si applica agli interruttori di manovra e interruttori di manovra-sezionatori per corrente alternata trifase, con correnti di stabilimento e di interruzione assegnate, per installazioni all'interno e all'esterno, per tensioni nominali uguali o superiori a 52 kV e per frequenze nominali inferiori o uguali a 60 Hz. Scopo principale della Norma è quello di stabilire le prescrizioni per gli interruttori di manovra usati nelle reti di trasmissione e distribuzione e definire le prescrizioni per interruttori d'uso limitato o speciale utilizzati nei sistemi di trasporto e di distribuzione.
La presente Norma costituisce la ristampa consolidata, secondo il nuovo progetto di veste editoriale, della Norma pari numero ed edizione (Fascicolo 1764); essa incorpora la Variante V1 (Fasc. 2468 V) e la Variante V2 (Fasc. 4492) pubblicate precedentemente in Fascicoli separati.
La presente Norma é annullata e sostituita dalla Nuova Norma, CEI EN 62271-104:2010-05 (CEI 17-115), tuttavia rimane applicabile fino al 1-06-2012.
