La presente Norma fornisce delle linee guida per la fidatezza di un sistema ingegneristico e descrive un processo per realizzare la fidatezza di un sistema per tutto il ciclo di vita, dando metodi e strumenti per la valutazione della fidatezza del sistema e per la verifica del raggiungimento dei risultati degli obiettivi di fidatezza.
Questa Norma si applica allo sviluppo di nuovi sistemi e per migliorare sistemi esistenti che richiedono interazione tra le diverse funzioni di sistema in termini di hardware, software ed elemento umano. La Norma va utilizzata anche dai fornitori di sottosistemi e dai fornitori di prodotti che raccolgono informazioni sul sistema e criteri per l'integrazione di sistema.
Si ricordi che la fidatezza complessiva di un sistema è il risultato di complesse interazioni dei vari elementi del sistema, ambiente di applicazione, interfacce uomo-macchina, servizi di supporto e altri fattori di influenza.
Questa Norma viene pubblicata dal CEI nella sola lingua inglese in quanto particolarmente mirata a settori specialistici.
