La Norma specifica i requisiti dei fili in rame nastrati di sezione circolare di classe 240. L'isolamento viene realizzato con una o due nastrature con nastro di poliimide aromatico provvisto di collante, per esempio a base di etilpropilene fluorinato.
La classe 240 è una classe termica che richiede un indice minimo di temperatura di 240 °C e una temperatura al colpo di calore di almeno 260 °C.
L'indice non corrisponde necessariamente alla temperatura d'impiego che viene determinata sulla base di vari fattori di impiego.
