La Norma si applica a connettori a 8 vie schermati fissi e mobili, rimandando alla EN/IEC 60603-7 per le caratteristiche e prove dimensionali, meccaniche, elettriche e ambientali e specificando le prescrizioni di trasmissione elettrica, incluso la diafonia esterna (esogena) cumulativa, per frequenze sino a 500 MHz. Questi connettori sono accoppiabili e interoperabili con altri connettori della serie EN/IEC 60603-7, come definito nel capitolo 2 della IEC 60603-7-1. Essi offrono inoltre una compatibilità "a ritroso" (backward) con altri connettori della serie EN/IEC 60603-7.
