La Norma si applica alle unità di serraggio a vite e senza vite per i dispositivi di connessione, sia come entità separate sia come parti integranti dell'apparecchio, per la connessione dei conduttori elettrici in rame (rigidi o cordati) e/o flessibili, con una sezione da 0,2 mm2 fino a 35 mm2 incluso e dimensioni AWG equivalenti, con tensione nominale non superiore a 1000 V c.a., con frequenza fino a 1000 Hz incluso, e 1500 V c.c.
La Norma si applica alle unità di serraggio adatte principalmente per la connessione dei conduttori senza preparazione speciale.
La Norma non si applica alle unità di serraggio:
a) per la connessione con aggraffatura o saldatura;
b) per i circuiti di dati e segnalazione;
c) per i terminali piatti a connessione rapida, per i dispositivi di connessione a perforazione dell'isolante e per i dispositivi di connessione a cappuccio.
