La presente Norma definisce le specifiche e le prescrizioni di collaudo per un connettore dotato di 4 contatti e di un contatto aggiuntivo PE, per uso in ambiente industriale. Essa definisce inoltre connettori fissi e mobili, con contatti rotondi, adatti per terminazioni a bloccaggio o crimpate/aggraffate. Altre tecniche di terminazione, come quelle saldate o connessioni per circuiti stampati, sono da concordare tra costruttori e utenti. I connettori fissi e mobili sono dotati di un meccanismo di blocco push-pull per protezioni di tipo IP65 e IP67 in accordo alla EN/IEC 60529. Il contatto PE è del tipo "primo a chiudere/ultimo ad aprire". I connettori aderenti a questa Norma sono senza potere di interruzione (COC) in accordo alla EN/IEC 61984 e quindi essi non sono destinati come uso normale ad essere impegnati o disimpegnati sotto tensione o sotto carico, se non altrimenti specificato dal costruttore.
