Questa parte della Norma internazionale IEC 61747, contiene le prescrizioni di carattere generale relative ai dispositivi di visualizzazione a cristalli liquidi ed allo stato solido.
In essa vengono definite le procedure generali per la valutazione della qualità (da utilizzarsi nel sistema IECQ) e stabilisce le regole base per i metodi di misura delle caratteristiche elettriche ed ottiche dei display a cristalli liquidi ed allo stato solido, le prove climatiche e meccaniche e le prove di vita.
Un’ampia parte della norma è dedicata alla terminologia: quindi sono riportati moltissimi termini di base relativi alla tecnologia di visualizzazione a cristalli liquidi ed allo stato solido.
I termini sono suddivisi in quelli relativi ai concetti fisici, quelli di tipo generale e quelli relativi ai valori nominali ed alle caratteristiche.
La presente Norma sostituisce la EN 120000:1996.
La Norma EN 61747-1:1999 è stata adottata dal CEI nel maggio 2000 dandone l’annuncio sull’organo ufficiale del Comitato Elettrotecnico Italiano (CEINFORMA).
Ora il CEI rende disponibile la stessa con l'aggiunta della Mod. A1:2003 nella versione a stampa in lingua italiana con l'inglese a fronte.
