La presente Norma si applica alle schede con circuiti ottici che posseggono le seguenti caratteristiche generali:
modelli di trasmissione con percorsi ottici dritti, incrociati e curvi e con porte di ingresso/uscita in piano;
lunghezze controllate di percorsi ottici, se richiesto;
combinazione con schede dotate di circuiti elettrici, la cui funzionalità è fuori dell'ambito di questa Norma;
interconnessione di componenti ottici con la possibilità di montare componenti.
Questa Norma viene pubblicata dal CEI nella sola lingua inglese in quanto particolarmente mirata a settori specialistici.
