La guida fornisce le istruzioni per la redazione delle specifiche tecniche necessarie all'approvvigionamento di impianti per la movimentazione delle ceneri leggere con caldaie alimentate a carbone per l'impiego in centrali per la produzione dell'energia elettrica. Essa si applica ai dispositivi di movimentazione di tipo pneumatico, meccanico ed idraulico. I sistemi pneumatici ad aria compressa o gas inerte comprendono, per la movimentazione ad alta velocità: eiettori, pompe ed elevatori; per la bassa velocità movimentatori ad aria compressa. I sistemi meccanici comprendono: trasportatori a cinghia ed a catena; elevatori a tazze; veicoli con contenitori per cenere. I sistemi idraulici comprendono: pompe per miscele ceneri-acqua ed eiettori ad acqua pressurizzata.
